Together in faith, we live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and grow in excellence.
Tika | Justice
Pono | Truth
Aroha | Compassion
Welcome
Tēnā koutou katoa, and a warm welcome to our school community.
It is my privilege to welcome you to Our Lady of Sacred Heart School (OLSH). We are more than just an educational institution; we are a vibrant faith community where the spirit of Christ is alive and active.
As a Mercy school, we are steeped in a tradition of care and service. We are deeply committed to nurturing our students, ensuring they feel safe and loved, while simultaneously encouraging them to grow in excellence. We believe that every child has God-given potential, and it is our mission to help them realise it.
Our school culture is anchored in three core values that guide our daily interactions and our long-term vision:
- Pono (Truth): Living with integrity and honesty.
- Tika (Justice): Doing what is right and fair for all.
- Aroha (Compassion): Showing love and empathy to those around us.
At OLSH, education goes beyond the classroom. We are committed to forming students who live out their faith through action, becoming compassionate leaders who make a difference in the world.
We also know that we cannot do this alone. We deeply value the partnership between home and school, firmly believing that parents are the children’s first teachers. By working together, whānau and school create the best environment for your child to flourish.
Supporting this vision is our dedicated School Board, who are very committed to ensuring the school’s continued success and strategic growth.
I invite you to explore our community and join us in our mission.
Ma te Atua koutou e manaaki (May God bless you all),
Tanya Rodrigues

Lockdown exercise complete
Thu Aug 13 01:26pmDear parents
Today we practised our emergency procedures under the guidance of Hrarison Tew. We are pleased to inform you that our practice today went very well with our students responding safely and calmly.
We are aware that the message sent to parents was actually the email that is sent to the staff - this was done in error and our processes have been updated accordingly. These practises are a useful way to identify where changes/improvements need to be made.
During the year we will continue to practise all our emergency procedures to ensure all staff and students remain familiar with them. We believe that it is important that we conduct regular practices for lockdowns and evacuations so that we can be well prepared and familiar with our procedures should an emergency occur.
We thank you for your support.
Lockdown Exercise today
Thu Aug 13 09:11amDear parents
As part of keeping our school safe we need to be able to respond safely and quickly to a range of emergency situations. We work alongsise Harrison Tew, and independent organisation specialising in emergency amangement planning for schools, whose procedures have been successfully implemented in hundreds of schools throughout New Zealand.
As part of maintaining our emergency procedures, specialised training is being conducted today with our senior leadership and staff, and the students. They will receive information on how to respond in an emergency and we will then conduct a lockdown exercise under the guidance and support of Harrison Tew.
During the exercise you will receive a notification from the school (either email or a school alert). It is important that your contact details are up to date and correct. The notification will emphasise that this is an exercise/practice and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website.
In a genuine incident, should you become aware of a lockdown or evacuation at the school, we ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond. Your presence or contact may make it more difficult for us or the emergency services to manage a situation.
We thank you for your support.

Strategic Plan Survey - Catholic Faith and Special Character
Thu Aug 06 02:56pmHelp Shape Our Catholic Faith and Special Character
Our school's strategic plan is about more than setting priorities – it’s about shaping the future of our school together.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing each of our four strategic goals and inviting feedback from our school community. Your insights, experiences and aspirations will help ensure our plan reflects what matters most to our students, families, staff and parish.
We begin with the foundation of who we are: our Catholic faith and special character.
Our Catholic faith is at the heart of our school. It shapes our relationships, guides our learning, inspires our service to others and helps our children grow as people of faith, hope and love. As we look to the future, we want to strengthen this special character so that every child has authentic opportunities to encounter Christ and live the Gospel in their everyday lives.
Strategic Goal 1: Catholic Faith and Special Character
Goal: To provide authentic faith experiences that nurture spiritual growth and strengthen the Catholic identity and special character of our school community.
Key Initiatives:
Provide differentiated learning opportunities across the curriculum, especially in Religious Education.
Develop meaningful opportunities for service grounded in Catholic Social Teaching.
Provide ongoing professional development to strengthen staff capability in Catholic theology, spirituality and mission.
Foster strong partnerships by welcoming families and parishioners into the faith life and events at our school.
Outcomes
Students and staff have a strong sense of our school’s Catholic identity and can articulate how faith connects to daily life and learning.
Students actively live out the Gospel values of tika, pono and aroha demonstrating respect and compassion through their words and actions.
Confident, faith informed staff who model and nurture the Catholic special character of our school.
Home, school and parish working together in partnership to support the faith formation of every child.
We'd Love Your Feedback
As parents and whānau, your voice is an important part of this journey. As you read this goal, we invite you to reflect on the questions in the following link:View
Your feedback will help shape this strategic goal before it is finalised.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for partnering with us as we continue to nurture children who know Christ, live the Gospel and serve others with compassion.
