Our new Koru Room
Wednesday March 28th our school community came together in prayer & song to celebrate the opening of the Koru Room. This is a project that has taken a little while to come together, but finally we have reached the end of the journey for this particular building.
After mass, celebrated by Bishop Pat, our parish priests Father Pat and Father Joy, and Deacon John, we completed our official ceremonies with the cutting of the ribbon and blessing of the Koru Room.
Sam Foote and VIctoria Butler assisted Sister Lucille Taylor and Bishop Pat in the ribbon ceremony. BIshop Pat sprinkled Holy Water through the new building, blessing all new areas.
Melissa McMahon, a west Auckland artist, painted a mural for the wall of the building which captures the view of One Tree Hill from the school, and incorporates the Koru motif. The Koru in Maori spirituality symbolises the Beginning of Life, new beginnings, growth and harmony. The arch of the church window was also included in Melissa's mural, to illustrate the connection between the mountain, the church and the school.
A special piece of artwork was donated by Angela Donohoe, depicting the Koru and explaining its significance in relation to our new room. This will hang inside the Koru Room.
